Dexter Episode 9: Father Knows Best

Dexter learns that **Joe Driscoll**, the man he believed had died long ago and who claimed to be his biological father, has recently died and left him everything, including a house in Dade City. He goes there with **Rita**, and the trip becomes a weekend of sorting through Driscoll’s belongings.

At the house, **Debra** and **Rudy** show up to help, and Dexter starts digging into Driscoll’s death because something about it feels wrong. He checks the body at the morgue and talks with Driscoll’s elderly neighbor, **Irma**, who notices that Rudy looks like the cable repairman who visited Driscoll shortly before he died. That detail deepens Dexter’s suspicion that Driscoll may have been murdered, not killed by natural causes.

The episode also includes flashbacks to Dexter’s childhood, where he asks **Harry** about his birth parents. In those memories, Harry tells him that Driscoll had once donated blood for the young Dexter during surgery, giving Dexter a small but unsettling glimpse into his origins.

Meanwhile, in Miami, **Sergeant Doakes** is involved in a shooting and claims he acted in self-defense. **Angel Batista** is questioned about what he saw, and Dexter’s blood-spatter analysis does not match Doakes’s version of events, putting Batista in a moral bind. By the end of that storyline, Batista chooses to tell Internal Affairs what he believes really happened, even though doing so will make him look like a rat.

Rita’s storyline turns darker when **Paul** starts slipping back into abusive behavior after Rita tries to keep him away from their children. The episode ends with the family tensions, the unresolved questions around Driscoll’s death, and the growing pressure on Dexter from both his personal life and his work.
