FROM Episode 19: Ball of Magic Fire

The town is thrown into panic after a sleeping resident is found mutilated, and everyone realizes that *sleeping itself* has become dangerous. Boyd and Kenny rush to contain the situation, while Jim’s decision to trust Randall begins to unravel in a very immediate and dangerous way.

Boyd and Kenny go to Reggie’s house and discover Paula dead in bed, with Reggie insisting she was talking in her sleep before something seemed to “crack” inside her. Boyd immediately treats the death as evidence of a new threat and orders Ethan home, then tells Julie and Kenny to warn everyone not to sleep. Julie relays to Boyd that Jim is out by the RV, which pulls the episode into several simultaneous danger zones across town.

In the woods, Randall is with Jim and tells him what he saw near the clinic. When Jim tries to help Donna, Randall shoves him down, revealing how unstable and aggressive he has become. Boyd arrives, gets Randall to lower his knife, and the situation worsens when Randall throws the van keys into the woods, trapping the group and forcing them into the RV. Soon after, Reggie returns to Colony House and tells everyone what happened, and the residents realize Donna is missing.

Inside the RV, Boyd handcuffs Randall after Randall and Jim clash again. Boyd then prepares bile-filled bullets as the monsters gather around the vehicle, making clear the town’s defensive plan is now centered on surviving the night rather than solving the mystery. As the pressure builds, the music in the RV stops and thumping begins underneath it, turning the vehicle into a claustrophobic trap. Randall panics and escapes out the back, while Jim and Donna make a run for the van. Boyd steps outside and fires at the monsters while pushing toward the van, and Randall is attacked by the cicadas in the woods.

Elsewhere, Kenny finds Sara with a gun at Boyd’s desk, adding another tense and suspicious thread to the night. At Colony House, Tillie notices Fatima is pregnant, which prompts Elgin to remember a dream he has had. Elgin later tells Boyd that after learning Fatima was pregnant, he recalled a dream of a boy in white repeating a phrase. Bakta identifies that phrase as part of a nursery rhyme, tying the episode’s strange visions and supernatural clues together without fully explaining them.

Meanwhile, Marielle is left unresponsive but still breathing, and Boyd tries to comfort Kristi before Ellis calls him to speak with Elgin. The episode ends with the town still under siege by an unseen force, while the full consequences of Randall’s involvement in Jim’s plan have become impossible to ignore.
