FROM Episode 20: Once Upon a Time...

Emma spends the episode trying to make sense of the strange events in Storybrooke while August pushes her to believe that the town and its people are part of a much bigger story. August promises to show her how she can beat Regina and protect Henry, and Emma begins to see that he knows far more about Storybrooke than he has admitted.

In the present-day Storybrooke storyline, Regina returns from work and immediately starts acting on a plan to seduce David, even though Mary Margaret has just gone back to her job. Emma continues to resist the idea that the town is under any kind of curse, but August keeps pressing her with information that challenges her skepticism.

The episode also flashes back to the Enchanted Forest, where Snow White is in labor and giving birth to her baby. Geppetto is involved in a secret plan connected to the child’s survival, and he agrees to a course of action that could save Snow White’s daughter while also protecting his own son. Pinocchio’s backstory is revealed through these flashbacks, tying August directly to the events that placed Emma on her path years earlier.

Back in Storybrooke, the episode builds toward the reveal of August’s true identity, showing that he is connected to Pinocchio and to the earlier events surrounding baby Emma. The revelation reframes his behavior throughout the episode and explains why he has been so determined to steer Emma toward the truth.

By the end of the episode, Emma is left with a much clearer sense that August’s warnings are real, even if she is not fully ready to accept everything he tells her. Regina’s manipulations, August’s revelations, and the flashbacks all point toward the same idea: Emma’s arrival in Storybrooke is tied to a long-hidden chain of events that began in the fairy-tale world.
