Full recap

The episode splits between the Matthews family’s desperate first night in town and the broader community’s response to the creatures outside. Tabitha and Julie are taken to Colony House and forced to confront how dangerous and strange their new reality is, while Jim stays in the RV with Boyd, Kristi, and Ethan as they try to stabilize Ethan’s leg injury through the night.

After the crash, the group is divided before dark. Tabitha and Julie are brought to Colony House, where Donna makes clear that the town operates under strict rules for surviving the night, including where newcomers can stay and how residents must prepare when darkness falls. Tabitha resists what she is being told and struggles to accept that this place is real, while Julie is overwhelmed by the situation. At the same time, Jim remains with Boyd and Kristi in the RV, where Kristi works on Ethan’s injury and they try to keep him stable after the table leg is removed from his leg.

As night comes, the threat outside becomes unmistakable. Strange voices and figures gather around the RV, and Boyd keeps Jim from opening the door, insisting that whatever is outside is not human and is not there to help. Inside the vehicle, Ethan’s condition is treated as carefully as possible while the group listens to the growing danger around them. Elsewhere, the people heading toward Colony House race to get inside before dark, but the situation grows chaotic as they approach the building and the creatures close in.

When the group reaches Colony House, the residents let them in just in time, but the security is tense and controlled. Donna quickly takes charge, and Tabitha, Julie, and the others are made to get on the floor as a precaution while the house follows survival protocol. The episode emphasizes how unnatural and routine this fear has become for the people living there, even as it is completely new to the Matthews family.

The episode also introduces a harsher reality about the town itself: the people there are trapped, the forest is full of intelligent creatures that hunt at night, and certain rules offer protection inside enclosed spaces. The town’s residents explain enough for the newcomers to understand the basics of their situation, but not enough to make it feel less impossible.

Tragedy then strikes from an unexpected source. In the chaos around the RV and the town, a dangerous new threat emerges, and the episode ends on the sense that survival is becoming even less predictable than it already was.
