FROM Episode 38: Heavy Is the Head

Season 4· aired 2026-06-14

A dangerous plan begins to take shape. How much is Boyd willing to risk for the chance to get everyone home? Fatima and Henry find themselves at two very different and disturbing crossroads. Victor helps Tabitha and Ethan prepare for the worst.

Full recap

Boyd spends most of the episode trying to decide whether a risky plan is worth the cost, while Fatima’s condition becomes far more alarming and Tabitha is pushed toward a frightening confrontation of her own.

Fatima tells Boyd, Donna, and Ellis that she saved Kenny by taking control of Smiley, and she shows them markings on her body that resemble the creatures’ patterns. Kristi checks her pulse and determines that, by normal standards, she should be clinically dead. Fatima is terrified that she is becoming one of the monsters, but she also realizes that whatever is happening to her might be useful.

Boyd is confronted with Jade’s idea for a new escape route: using the bottle tree and the buried chamber beneath it as part of a way out. Boyd rejects the plan at first because it would send people into extreme danger and depends on a single route with no backup. He struggles with the weight of leadership and the possibility that people may have to die if the town is ever going to be escaped. He also has a vision of Father Khatri, who warns him that some people may need to die in order for others to get out.

Ethan asks Victor to help him prepare for the possibility of being left alone, and Victor begins teaching him how to survive that kind of future. Tabitha tries to reassure Ethan that she will get them out, but she also joins the effort to prepare him for the worst. Their conversation turns into a practical lesson about loneliness and survival if the people they care about are no longer there.

Henry begins experiencing unsettling visions and starts to believe the town may be connected to his own mind in some way. At the same time, Sophia is out moving through town, interfering with other people’s plans. She steals Boyd’s yellow suit from his belongings at the police station and also takes Ethan’s drawings about family. Her actions anger and frustrate Boyd, and they also set up later events in the episode.

Tabitha receives a phone call from her dead son telling her to go to the crashed RV where her family first arrived. When she gets there, she finds the pictures Ethan had drawn and stolen. The Man in Yellow then appears and confronts her, warning that if the theory about the children’s bones and the bottle tree is wrong, it could unleash terrible suffering.

By the end of the episode, Boyd is left more shaken but increasingly forced to consider the possibility that a dangerous sacrifice may be unavoidable, while Fatima, Henry, Ethan, and Tabitha are each pushed into new and unsettling territory.
