FROM Episode 40: If a Tree Falls in the Forest…

Jade and Tabitha collect the children’s bones in the chamber beneath the Bottle Tree, believing they may help, while the talisman does not stop the danger in the caves. When the bottle tree is uprooted, the town’s normal rhythm breaks down and darkness and chaos spread almost immediately.

Above ground, Boyd organizes the effort to pull the Bottle Tree out by the roots, and a truck is used to wrench it free, exposing the area below. As the tree comes out, the situation turns catastrophic: the town is plunged into darkness, an earthquake hits, and creatures move on the people gathered around the site.

Down in the tunnels, Jade tells Tabitha to escape with the bones while he stays behind to buy time, but the plan fails when the ladder breaks before she can get out. Jade and Tabitha flee deeper through the caves, only to become trapped as the monsters close in on them.

Back in town, a creature slips into the clinic after a talisman is knocked loose and attacks Marielle, who dies shortly afterward in Kristi’s arms. Elsewhere, Elgin is confronted by Sophia, who tells him the cycle is ending and demands a deal; when he refuses, she kills him. Sophia and Clara then gather up the town’s talismans.

Henry prepares to kill Victor after acting on a vision, but Victor is able to subdue him when Ethan arrives. Boyd later returns to the tunnels with Fatima and Ellis to rescue Jade and Tabitha, and Fatima, who can sense the creatures, helps the group escape by transforming into one herself.

At the end of the episode, the Boy in White tells Sophia that she will finally lose, and Sophia responds by throwing the talismans into a farway tree.
