Game of Thrones Episode 24: And Now His Watch is Ended

Tyrion quietly studies the political tensions in King’s Landing while the court adjusts to the Tyrells’ growing influence. Cersei makes it clear she does not trust Margaery, and Margaery responds by trying to build a friendly bond with Sansa, even hinting that she would like Sansa to marry Ser Loras.

Jaime, now missing his sword hand, is brought along by Locke and his men and humiliated with taunts and cruelty. He tries to fight back after being forced to drink horse urine, but is beaten down, and Brienne later tells him not to give in to despair but to stay alive so he can get revenge.

At King’s Landing, Tyrion seeks answers from Varys about the recent betrayal against him and learns more about Varys’s past. Varys reveals that he was once mutilated as part of a sorcerer’s ritual, and Tyrion sees that Varys has captured that same man and arranged a cruel revenge.

Arya, Gendry, and the Hound are taken to the Brotherhood Without Banners. Lord Beric Dondarrion confronts the Hound over the death of Mycah, and Arya and the Hound argue about what happened. Dondarrion declares that the Hound will be judged by trial by combat, with Dondarrion himself taking part.

At Craster’s Keep, tensions among the Night’s Watch men boil over. After a funeral for one of their own, Karl Tanner and other men openly challenge Craster, while Rast stokes the anger further. Craster is killed during the confrontation, Jeor Mormont is stabbed when he tries to intervene, and the situation collapses into violent mutiny. Sam escapes with Gilly and her baby as Rast threatens him if he ever returns.

Daenerys travels to Astapor to bargain for the Unsullied, agreeing to trade one of her dragons for the entire slave army. Once the exchange is complete, she reveals that she understands the insults being hurled at her, orders the Unsullied to kill the slave masters, and commands her dragon to burn Kraznys. She then offers the Unsullied the chance to leave as free men, but they choose to stay and follow her as she leaves the city with her newly won army.
