Game of Thrones Episode 27: The Bear and the Maiden Fair

Jon travels south with the wildlings, where Ygritte continues to tease him and the two argue about the differences between wildling and southern ways; Orell warns Ygritte that Jon will never truly understand her, but the group keeps moving toward Castle Black.

At Riverrun, Robb’s army is delayed by rain on the way to the Twins, which worries Catelyn and the Blackfish because it further insults Walder Frey and complicates the marriage arrangement with the Freys. Later, Talisa tells Robb that she is pregnant, and he is overjoyed.

At the Brotherhood’s camp, Arya is angered when she learns they took money for Gendry, and when a nearby Lannister raiding party is reported, Beric orders the men to ride out after them. Arya then decides to leave the Brotherhood, but the Hound catches up with her and takes her with him.

In King’s Landing, Tywin summons Joffrey to the throne room and puts him in his place when the king asks what the Small Council has been doing, making it clear that Tywin is the one actually running the government. At the same time, Sansa is troubled by her future while Tyrion’s situation leaves Shae frustrated.

Melisandre speaks privately with Gendry and tells him that he has royal blood, revealing that he is Robert Baratheon’s son. Gendry is stunned by the revelation.

Daenerys arrives at Yunkai with her army and declares that she intends to free the city’s slaves. An envoy offers her gold and ships if she leaves, but Daenerys refuses and demands that the slaves be freed and rewarded for their service, or she will attack.

At Harrenhal, Jaime visits Brienne in her cell and makes her swear to keep her oath to Catelyn and return the Stark girls to their mother. Qyburn later tells Jaime that Brienne will not be ransomed, and Jaime is blackmailed into allowing the party to leave Harrenhal.

When Jaime returns, he finds Brienne forced into a pit with an angry bear and armed only with a wooden sword while her captors mock her. Jaime jumps into the pit to protect her, and after a dangerous struggle he helps her escape as the men withdraw.
