Game of Thrones Episode 31: Two Swords

Tywin Lannister has the Valyrian steel sword **Ice** melted down and reforged into two smaller swords, one of which he gives to Jaime. He wants Jaime to leave the Kingsguard and return to **Casterly Rock**, but Jaime refuses, and Tywin disowns him before Jaime leaves with the new sword.

Tyrion waits in King’s Landing to receive the Dornish delegation for Joffrey’s wedding, but Prince **Oberyn Martell** arrives instead of Doran. Oberyn’s arrival immediately carries tension because he is openly tied to a personal grudge against the Lannisters over the killing of his sister, Elia, and her children.

At the Wall, Jon Snow is brought before the Night’s Watch leadership and questioned about his time with the wildlings and the death of Qhorin Halfhand. Janos Slynt and Alliser Thorne demand that Jon be executed, but Maester Aemon believes him and lets him live after accepting Jon’s warning that an attack is coming.

Beyond the Wall, Ygritte and Tormund encounter a group of cannibalistic Thenns led by Styr. The Thenns are shown roasting the severed arm of a dead Night’s Watch man, making clear how dangerous they are.

Sandor Clegane tells Arya Stark that he plans to ransom her to Lysa Arryn in the Vale. They stop at an inn, where Arya spots Polliver among the men there; he still has Needle. A fight breaks out, Sandor kills most of the men, Arya takes back Needle, and she kills Polliver with the same method he used on Lommy.
