Game of Thrones Episode 55: The Door

Sansa meets Littlefinger in Mole’s Town and confronts him about marrying her to Ramsay Bolton. He tells her that the Blackfish has retaken Riverrun and offers the support of the Vale, but Sansa rejects his help and stays angry at him.

At Castle Black, Jon and Sansa discuss the growing threat from Ramsay and the need for allies. A war council follows, with Jon, Sansa, Davos, Melisandre, Tormund, Brienne, Podrick, and others arguing over how to raise enough men to fight the Boltons, especially after major northern houses have declared for Ramsay. Jon and Sansa then prepare to travel and gather support from the northern houses.

In Braavos, Arya continues her training with the Faceless Men. Jaqen gives her a new assignment: kill an actress named Lady Crane, who is playing Cersei in a theater performance that dramatizes the War of the Five Kings.

In Meereen, Tyrion and Varys bring in a red priestess named Kinvara to help spread Daenerys’s cause. Kinvara agrees to preach that Daenerys is the chosen one of the Lord of Light, while Varys remains skeptical.

On the Iron Islands, the kingsmoot is held to choose the new ruler. Euron Greyjoy returns, dominates the assembly, and is chosen as king, forcing Yara and Theon to flee with their ships.

Daenerys meets Jorah and learns he has greyscale. He confesses his love for her, and she orders him to find a cure and return to her side so he can be there when she conquers Westeros.

Bran enters another vision with the Three-Eyed Raven and sees a scene from the distant past: the Children of the Forest create the White Walkers from captured First Men. During the vision, Bran is discovered by the Night King, and the cave’s defenses begin to fail as wights attack.

Meera urges Hodor to protect them, and the escape turns into a desperate fight through the cave. Bran is forced into a past version of Hodor, and the shock of what he is seeing and hearing causes young Wylis’s repeated “Hodor,” which becomes the command that the older Hodor follows in the present. Hodor holds the door against the wights long enough for Bran and Meera to flee, sacrificing himself, while the Three-Eyed Raven and the remaining Children are killed.

The episode ends with the horror of that loss and Bran’s sudden understanding of Hodor’s lifelong condition, alongside the collapse of the cave’s protection and the danger now closing in on Bran and Meera.
