Game of Thrones Episode 59: Battle of the Bastards

Daenerys confronts the masters in Meereen, while Jon Snow and Sansa Stark go to Winterfell to face Ramsay Bolton, and the episode splits between those two conflict lines.

In Meereen, Daenerys, Tyrion, Missandei, and Grey Worm meet with representatives of the masters, who demand that Daenerys surrender the Unsullied and Missandei and allow her dragons to be killed. Daenerys rejects their terms, and the situation escalates into open violence when she unleashes Drogon and the other dragons on the enemy fleet, burning ships and forcing the masters back. At the same time, Daario arrives with Dothraki fighters and attacks the Sons of the Harpy at the city gates. After the fighting, Yara and Theon Greyjoy arrive in Meereen and offer Daenerys their ships and support in exchange for backing Yara’s claim to the Iron Islands.

In the North, Jon, Sansa, Davos, and Tormund meet with Ramsay before the battle. Jon proposes a single combat trial to avoid a larger slaughter, but Ramsay refuses. The armies then prepare for war, with Jon’s side heavily outnumbered. During the battle, Ramsay lures Jon’s forces into a devastating trap and uses Rickon Stark as bait before killing him with an arrow as Jon tries to reach him. Jon’s army is pushed back and nearly destroyed. Just as the battle appears lost, Sansa arrives with the Knights of the Vale, who attack Ramsay’s forces and turn the fight. The Bolton troops are driven into Winterfell, where Jon and his men break through the gates and storm the castle.

Ramsay is captured after the battle, and Winterfell returns to House Stark. Later, Sansa visits Ramsay in the kennels, where he is imprisoned with his hounds.
