Hunter x Hunter Episode 20: Baffling x Turn of x Events

Gon wakes up to find Satotz by his bed. Satotz congratulates Gon on passing the Hunter Exam and offers a handshake, but Gon, feeling unsatisfied, declines. Satotz explains that Gon has indeed passed and cannot fail now, then presents him with a Hunter License, stating that what Gon does with it is his choice. After considering this, Gon accepts the license and shakes Satotz's hand.

Satotz informs Gon that the exam is over and that Killua is the only candidate who failed. Gon asks why, and Satotz recounts the remaining matches. In the second match, Kurapika faces Hisoka, who whispers something to Kurapika before conceding, giving Kurapika the win. The third match sees Hanzo use the same tactic he used on Gon to make Pokkle surrender. In the fourth match, Hisoka defeats Bodoro, who initially refuses to yield until Hisoka whispers something to him, prompting Bodoro to concede.

For the fifth match, Killua faces Pokkle but forfeits, unwilling to fight him. With Bodoro injured, his match against Leorio is postponed, leading directly to the seventh match between Killua and Gittarackur. Satotz explains that Killua realizes Gittarackur is his older brother, Illumi. Illumi tells Killua he is unworthy of being a Hunter and should be an assassin. Killua responds that he doesn't want a license and only wants to be friends with Gon. Illumi continues to lecture him, but Leorio intervenes, telling Killua he must defeat Illumi like his other opponents and that Gon is already his friend.

Hearing this, Illumi decides to kill Gon, believing Gon will hinder Killua's assassin path. He heads for the exit, intending to go to Gon's room. However, Hanzo, Kurapika, and Leorio block his way. Illumi then decides to pass the exam first before killing Gon, realizing that killing Gon now would make him fail.

Illumi approaches Killua and asks if he wants to continue their match. Overwhelmed by fear of his brother and the threat to Gon, Killua surrenders. Illumi wins and then reveals he lied about killing Gon.

After this, the postponed sixth match, now the seventh, begins between Bodoro and Leorio. Killua suddenly appears behind Bodoro and kills him, resulting in Killua's immediate disqualification and failure of the exam.

Gon then goes to the gathering where other examinees are receiving lessons about being Hunters and confronts Illumi.
