Hunter x Hunter Episode 47: Condition x and x Condition
The anticipated battle between Kurapika and Uvogin begins! Can Kurapika really withstand Uvogin's abilities, and just what are the full extent of the powers in Kurapika's chains?
Full recap
Uvogin locates Kurapika, and at Kurapika's suggestion, they move to a deserted wasteland. After expelling leeches from his body, Uvogin asks Kurapika who he is, sensing an unusual aura. Kurapika asks if Uvogin and the group he belongs to remember the people they've killed. Uvogin replies he only remembers those who made an impression, understanding Kurapika seeks revenge. Kurapika reminds him of the Kurta Clan, massacred five years prior, and their Scarlet Eyes. Uvogin claims no memory of them but confirms his membership in the group five years ago. He implies he feels nothing when killing, leading Kurapika to call him scum and declare Uvogin will atone through death. Uvogin charges up, stating that people like Kurapika are why he never tires of killing.
Uvogin attacks first. Kurapika evades and uses chains multiple times, but Uvogin dodges each attempt. Realizing the chains' danger and sensing an abnormal aura from them, Uvogin decides he needs to strike first. He charges Kurapika and lands a punch that damages Kurapika's left arm. Kurapika quickly counters with his chains, which Uvogin avoids. Uvogin is impressed Kurapika can still attack despite his injury, believing Kurapika's arm is broken. However, Kurapika emerges from dust unscathed, surprising Uvogin. As Uvogin tries to discern Kurapika's aura type, Kurapika insults his punch as weak. Angered, Uvogin attacks at half strength. Kurapika evades, counters, and hits Uvogin, still without a clear answer.
Kurapika then challenges Uvogin to use his full strength. Uvogin responds by punching the ground, creating a smokescreen. He sneaks up on Kurapika and lands a full-strength "Big Bang Impact," completely breaking Kurapika's left arm. After Kurapika praises his technique, Kurapika uses his own technique to trap Uvogin with chains, explaining how he was captured. Uvogin, figuring out Kurapika's aura type, wonders if he mastered both enhancement and conjuration techniques. Kurapika stands before him and removes his contact lenses, revealing Scarlet Eyes. Seeing these, Uvogin remembers the clan, stating they were tough and their leader wanted those eyes. Uvogin becomes re-energized and tries to break free from the chains. He continues to try but fails as Kurapika explains that when his eyes turn scarlet, he becomes a specialist, gaining full control of other aura types in that state.
A flashback shows Kurapika discussing using chains with his teacher for his attack. He also places a condition on the chains so they cannot be broken by his targets and sets a rule that risks his own life. When his Scarlet Eyes activate, his teacher notices his aura has spiked and suggests he try water divination in that state. Back in the present, Kurapika demonstrates his power by using a chain to fully heal his left arm. He tells Uvogin he chose him as his first target because Uvogin was the strongest physically among those he saw fight four other individuals, and if Uvogin cannot break his chains, then the others would be helpless. Furthermore, the "Chain Jail" activates a state where aura cannot be used when it ensnares any member of Uvogin's group, explaining why Uvogin cannot break free using his aura. Uvogin tries to break the chain again, now using only his physical strength.
Kurapika punches Uvogin, piercing his steel-like body. He is convinced he can defeat any member of Uvogin's group when they are wrapped in his "Chain Jail." He asks Uvogin about his group's location and abilities, but Uvogin refuses to answer, instead asking Kurapika to kill him. Kurapika continues to punch Uvogin, disorienting his senses, and questions why Uvogin feels nothing when killing innocent people. Uvogin repeats his earlier answer, and Kurapika snaps. He uses his "Judgment Chain," wrapping it around Uvogin's heart. Kurapika explains the "Judgment Chain": if Uvogin breaks the rules Kurapika sets, a knife will activate and pierce Uvogin's heart. Kurapika's rule is to force Uvogin to answer all his questions. Kurapika then asks again where Uvogin's group is hiding. Instead of answering, Uvogin smiles and tells Kurapika to die. The "Judgment Chain" activates and crushes Uvogin's heart. After the fight, Kurapika makes a call to Melody and buries Uvogin's body.
Back at the hideout of Uvogin's group, the remaining members gather and listen to their leader. Their leader deduces that if Uvogin's opponent uses a chain, it is likely a manipulator or a conjurer. The leader tells the team that Uvogin can handle himself, but these two types would give him the most trouble and have the highest chance of killing him in a one-on-one fight. He explains that conjurers often give special abilities to their creations that could cancel Uvogin's strength, and a manipulator could manipulate Uvogin himself. Another member is upset he didn't follow Uvogin when he felt he should have. The leader then states they will wait until dawn; if Uvogin has not returned by then, they will change their plans.
