Hunter x Hunter Episode 6: A x Surprising x Challenge
Gon and Kurapika reunite with Leorio and Killua at the Phase Two site. Satotz leads what remains of the candidates to meet the second phase examiners, named Menchi and Buhara. The examiners declare the next phase is to test their cooking skills, much to the candidates' disbelief. The test requires pork, so the candidates are sent to find pigs in the forest. However, the pigs living inside the forest are carnivorous and tear through the candidates. Thanks to Gon, they discover the pigs' weakness and they manage to each get one for their cooking. Upon tasting the candidates' cooking, Buhara gives a pass but Menchi fails all of them. Knowing the candidates will riot, Satotz informs Chairman Netoros of the Hunter Selection Committee to make an appearance. Netoros arrives to correct Menchi's habit of getting biased whenever it's related to cooking. Netoros allows Menchi to stay on as examiner, and she gives the candidates a retest: boil eggs laid by spider eagles on Mt. Split-in-Half. The candidates ride on Netoros' airship to the mountain where they learn they have to jump down a potentially fatal height to get the eggs. Having seen and learnt how Menchi gets her egg, Gon leads some of the other candidates into successfully getting their own. Some candidates are killed while rashly trying to get their eggs while others refuse to take the leap. Out of the 50 candidates who survive to reach Phase Two, 42 candidates now remain.

Gon, Kurapika, and a beaten-up Leorio reunite at the second phase site of the Hunter Exam, where examiners Buhara and Menchi—Gourmet Hunters—task the remaining candidates with hunting and cooking Great Stamp pigs from the nearby forest.
Buhara, the large examiner, easily defeats a pig and instructs everyone to retrieve its roasted hindquarter, which most candidates accomplish despite the pigs' aggressive nature and thick hides; Gon discovers their weak spot on the forehead after luring one into a tree.
Menchi, the smaller examiner with high standards, then demands a more creative pork dish using the same meat; attempts by Gon and Leorio to dress it up fail due to misunderstanding Kurapika's advice, and even Kurapika's pork sandwich does not satisfy her taste, resulting in no one passing.
Frustrated candidates riot, with one mocking Menchi as a "boor-made Hunter," prompting her to knock him out with a single hit; Satotz, the first-phase examiner, calls Chairman Netero, who arrives by air and intervenes to prevent exam cancellation.
Netero proposes a new challenge: boiling Spider Eagle eggs retrieved from nests deep in a treacherous cliff face, where candidates must jump, grab the eggs from webs, and use updrafts to return safely.
Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio team up—Gon and Killua fetch eggs while the others assist—successfully passing along with 41 other candidates, leaving 42 total; the episode closes with the passers enjoying their eggs.
