Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 53: Cog

Megumi and Panda clear out Hakari's guards and head toward the monitor room, but encounter **Kirara** on their way up. Kirara immediately suspects that Jujutsu High sent them to kill Hakari. During their confrontation, Megumi gradually figures out how Kirara's cursed technique works and uses this knowledge in a risky gambit to pin her to the ground. After successfully restraining her, Megumi releases Kirara and bows deeply, begging her to listen to what they have to say.

Meanwhile, **Yuji confronts Hakari directly**. Yuji explains that he and the others came seeking Hakari's help, but his approach backfires when he describes himself as nothing but "a cog in the machine of Jujutsu curse exorcism." Hakari, who opposes mindless obedience to systems, reacts with fury to this characterization. Despite this, Yuji impresses Hakari somewhat by taking at least three unguarded blows without blocking or fighting back, demonstrating his willingness to endure punishment.

Hakari continues his assault, punching Yuji so hard that he flies backward out of the building. Throughout the beating, Yuji refuses to defend himself, instead accepting every hit as proof of his resolve. When Hakari asks what Yuji is made of, Yuji responds by fully embracing his role: **"I'm a cog. Cogs have a function. My function is to keep exorcising curses. If you're necessary to achieve that, then I'll play along until you agree to it."**

The episode concludes with the sudden appearance of a **Kogane**—a small flying cursed contraption that announces Culling Game rules. It announces that a new rule has been established: players now have access to information about other players, including their names, points, number of rules added, and their current colony.
