Lioness Episode 5: Truth Is the Shrewdest Lie

Cruz wakes up in the team’s safe house after the violence of the previous night, disoriented and trying to piece together what happened. The others reassure her that she was not sexually assaulted, and she is quickly brought up to speed before the team prepares to move out again.

At the hospital, Joe, Neal, and Kaitlyn arrive to see Kate after her surgery. A doctor explains that the operation went well, and Joe stays with Kate long enough to talk to her about the accident and the state of her life before having to return to duty.

Kaitlyn then brings Joe to Langley for a meeting with Deputy Director Westfield and Kyle. Westfield confronts Joe about using her team in an unsanctioned operation and makes it clear she does not get to deploy them on her own. Kyle’s intelligence has uncovered a new threat, though, and the CIA decides to act on it.

Joe’s team is sent to San Antonio to hit a site linked to cartel activity and fighters entering the U.S., where they discover not only armed suspects but also explosives being assembled. After verifying the threat, the team breaches the location from multiple points, clears the building, and secures the weapons and bomb materials.

The operation does not stay hidden for long. One of the devices is unstable, the authorities evacuate the neighborhood, and a bomb squad is brought in to detonate the ordnance. The blast and the surrounding police activity attract media attention, creating a public mess for the CIA.

Back at the safe house, Cruz begins to realize her personal situation may be more complicated than she thought when she checks her phone and sees that Aaliyah has been trying to reach her. The episode ends with the mission’s fallout still unfolding and Cruz’s cover looking increasingly fragile.
