My Hero Academia Episode 111: Tenko Shimura: Origin
Memories from Shigaraki's past as Tenko Shimura resurface as he confronts Re-Destro.
Full recap
Tomura Shigaraki fights Re-Destro while, elsewhere in the city, Twice tries to keep an unconscious Himiko Toga alive by creating a Double of her so he can use it to obtain blood for her. As the battle intensifies, Shigaraki’s hand is shattered, but he keeps pressing forward and begins reacting to a flood of memories from his childhood.
In the confrontation, Re-Destro uses his Stress Quirk to overwhelm Shigaraki, grabs him, and tries to stop him from using his Decay by attacking his hands. Shigaraki responds with surprising speed and adaptability, managing to activate his power with only two fingers and continuing the fight even after taking heavy damage. At the same time, the chaos of the battle spreads across the city, with other villains and Liberation forces clashing around them, and Gigantomachia’s arrival adds to the destruction.
The memories that surface take the episode back to Shigaraki’s childhood, when he was called **Tenko Shimura**. As a young boy, Tenko is shown as gentle and hero-obsessed, but he lives under a strict, tense household ruled by his father, Kotaro, who forbids any talk of heroes and becomes angry whenever Tenko expresses that dream. Tenko’s older sister secretly shows him a photo of their grandmother, Nana Shimura, which excites him because it connects to his wish to become a hero.
That moment leads to trouble when the family’s rules and Kotaro’s resentment boil over, and Tenko is punished harshly for his interest in heroes. The pressure in the home keeps building until Tenko is left emotionally isolated, with only his dog with him. Then his unknown Quirk suddenly manifests for the first time, and in a horrifying accident he disintegrates his dog and family members one after another as he panics and loses control. As the situation becomes even more desperate, Tenko’s fear and anger turn into hatred, and when his father tries to stop him, Tenko attacks him directly and kills him with his power.
By the end of the episode, the battle in the present is still raging, but Shigaraki has clearly been changed by the memories flooding back from his childhood, and he continues fighting Re-Destro with renewed intensity.
