My Hero Academia Episode 137: A Young Woman`s Declaration

The refugees inside U.A. are still angry about Izuku Midoriya’s return, and the episode centers on the students and heroes trying to convince them that he should be allowed to stay and recover. The tension breaks only when Ochaco Uraraka gives an emotional speech that changes the crowd’s attitude.

The episode opens with U.A.’s new protective measures in place and the civilian evacuees gathered behind the strengthened barriers, still uneasy about Izuku being brought back to the school. Best Jeanist speaks first, explaining that although Izuku is being targeted by All For One, he is also the heroes’ greatest asset and needs rest in order to keep fighting. The crowd does not accept this at first and remains hostile.

Ochaco then steps forward and argues that Izuku left on his own because he did not want to endanger anyone else. She tells the refugees that he has a power unlike anyone else’s and that it is worth protecting, not rejecting. Her words move Izuku deeply, and he begins to cry as he listens.

The people around him are not swayed immediately, but the episode then brings in quieter support from others who know what Izuku has done. Kōta and the woman Izuku previously saved come forward to back him up, helping the crowd finally begin to calm down and accept that he should be sheltered at U.A.

The scene also shows how Izuku’s actions are inspiring other heroes and students. Shoto, Endeavor, and Hawks watch the impact of Ochaco’s speech and Izuku’s return, seeing a small but important rise in hope during an otherwise bleak time. Shoto and Endeavor also agree to cooperate in dealing with Tōya.

The episode then briefly shifts to U.A.’s broader situation. The principal updates Aizawa on conditions at the school: Aizawa is hospitalized and recovering after receiving an artificial leg, one of the captured villains is being treated psychiatrically in hopes of restoring the consciousness hidden within him, and special precautions are in place for a girl whose transformation requires anyone near her to be isolated for a period of time.

Finally, All Might is shown working on a separate task, aiming to persuade the last reluctant civilians to evacuate to the shelters. The episode ends with the sense that, thanks to Ochaco’s declaration, Izuku is no longer being treated as a burden by everyone around him, but as someone worth standing beside.
