My Hero Academia Episode 16: In Their Own Quirky Ways

Shoto gains an early lead in the Obstacle Race by freezing a giant Zero-Point Villain, causing it to collapse and block the path for other competitors. Eijiro and Tetsutetsu, both with similar defensive Quirks, break free from under the frozen robot. Katsuki uses his explosions to propel himself through the air over the remaining robots, followed by Hanta, who uses his Tape Quirk, and Fumikage, who uses his Dark Shadow Quirk.

From the stands, a Pro-Hero observes that most of the race leaders are from Class 1-A. Another Pro-Hero comments that the class has grown and learned not to hesitate since a past incident. Many students from the class navigate through the villain robots, including Izuku, who uses a piece of debris from a destroyed Zero-Point Villain to cut through one targeting him. Momo takes down the remaining Zero-Point Villains by creating a cannon.

The next obstacle is The Fall, a canyon crossed by tightropes. A student from the support course, Mei, showcases her developed gear, explaining that support course students can use equipment to compete with Hero Course students. She uses her gadgets to cross the fall, leaving Mina and Ochaco behind.

Shoto is the first to clear The Fall, but Katsuki quickly closes the distance. Spectators note Shoto's Quirk and physical abilities, with one person attributing it to him being the son of a hero known as Flame Hero: Endeavor.

Shoto reaches the final obstacle, The Mine Field, which puts him at a disadvantage. He carefully navigates the field, but Katsuki catches up, flying through the air with his Quirk. Katsuki attempts to blast Shoto, expressing irritation that Shoto challenged Izuku instead of him, and the two begin to battle for first place.

Inspired by Katsuki's use of his Quirk to fly, Izuku devises a plan upon reaching the Mine Field. He digs up mines using a shard of metal he picked up earlier and piles them. Protecting himself with the metal, he jumps on the mines, and the resulting explosion propels him ahead of both Katsuki and Shoto, surprising them.

Izuku briefly takes the lead, but Katsuki and Shoto quickly catch up as Izuku loses momentum. Before he lands, Izuku positions himself on both of their backs and detonates the mines in front by striking the metal shard on the ground. This explosion launches Izuku past his competitors, allowing him to run and cross the finish line in first place. Shoto and Katsuki follow, placing second and third, respectively. Soon after, the remaining thirty-nine qualifiers arrive back in the arena.

Izuku tears up as he sees a man with a proud grin in the stands. The man comments that he had nothing to worry about because Izuku showed he is a fighter whose selflessness doesn't hold him back. Izuku overhears students from the business course discussing how difficult he would be to market because he had not shown off his Quirk.

After announcing the standings, a woman named Midnight moves the festival to the second event: The Cavalry Battle. The top forty-two qualifiers must form teams of two to four people to earn points by stealing headbands from other teams. A team's point value is based on the value of its individual members, with point values determined by their placement in the obstacle race. Izuku, in first place, is worth ten million points. As other students realize that taking him down is their path to victory, Izuku understands he has become a massive target.
