My Hero Academia Episode 58: Save the World with Love!
We take a break from the provisional licensing exam to visit a class held before the summer training camp!
Full recap
Izuku and All Might appear in a special pre-show screening, with Izuku noting that his class should be in the middle of their Licensing Exam. All Might dismisses this, stating they have a special story about saving the world with love.
At the end of July, before training camp, All Might observes Midnight and Cementoss watching a TV special about his training abroad in America during the early days of his heroic career. All Might enjoys reminiscing and smiles at the mention of his friend, David Shield.
A special class is held for a few students, including Izuku, Katsuki, Shoto, Tenya, Ochaco, and Tsuyu. The class is designed to be more difficult than a normal one, tasking students with capturing a hypothetical villain. They must investigate a crime scene and determine the proper course of action. All Might, Cementoss, Midnight, and Present Mic participate as special instructors.
The students change into their Hero Costumes and meet Shota at Ground Beta. He explains that villains have attacked a jewelry store and are holding hostages, but the number of villains and hostages is unknown. The Police Force has asked the hypothetical Pro Heroes to resolve the situation. Shota refuses to answer Tenya's question, instructing the students to investigate and resolve the incident on their own.
The capture training begins. Katsuki tells Ochaco to look through a window to determine the number of villains and hostages. Shoto calls inside to distract the villain, played by All Might. Ochaco floats up to a window and sees Midnight, Cementoss, and Present Mic playing three hostages. All Might moves near the glass doors, and the students deliberate their next move.
Katsuki grows impatient and tells everyone to save the hostages while he attacks the villain. They charge in and are shocked to find the villain apparently murdered. They discover a blood-covered knife, and Tenya surmises that one of the hostages must have committed the act. Izuku suggests interviewing the hostages before reaching a conclusion.
Cementoss states he is the jewelry store clerk and was attacked by the villain. Present Mic was buying jewelry when the villain attacked, and Midnight entered during the attack and was taken hostage. Izuku and Ochaco inspect their wallets, confirming they have enough money to buy jewelry. Katsuki again expresses impatience, claiming the hostages must have killed the villain for the jewelry. Tsuyu argues it's too reckless for one of them to kill the villain in the store, and Shoto adds that the stolen jewelry has not been moved. Tenya finishes inspecting the store and confirms the villain was acting alone, implying one of the hostages is responsible.
Izuku is puzzled by the villain barricading himself. Cementoss says it's because the Police were called. Izuku theorizes that Midnight called the Police because she entered the store last. He suggests Midnight knew the villain before the robbery and called the Police before he arrived. She wanted to stop him but had no motive to kill him. Izuku believes the villain killed himself to prevent his relationship with Midnight from being exposed.
With the case "solved," Shota enters the store and ends the training. He commends Izuku for his deductions but then awards the students zero points, failing the task. They notice the villain's body is gone. All Might, still in his villain character, runs away to freedom, revealing he was alive the entire time. Shota tells his students their biggest mistake was assuming the villain was a corpse and not tying him up. The students lament their failure but then realize that because the villain faked his death to escape, there was no love between the villain and Midnight after all.
All Might returns to the main campus from his training and checks his email. He receives a message from Melissa Shield asking him to go to I-Island and reunite with David for a special Expo event. All Might recalls telling David that he wanted to become the Symbol of Peace for everyone in the world. All Might finds Izuku on his way home and asks him to journey with him to I-Island.
All Might and Izuku appear again in a special post-show screening. All Might asks if the special story was fun and if they saved the world with love. Izuku replies that there was no love, but what's important is that they are traveling to I-Island soon. All Might says they can only find out in the movie, and the next episode will continue the Provisional Licensing Exam.
