My Hero Academia Episode 86: Let It Flow! School Festival!
Izuku rushes back to the school festival after his encounter with Gentle Criminal and La Brava, but will he make it in time for his performance?
Full recap
The episode resolves the clash with Gentle Criminal, then shifts into the long-awaited U.A. School Festival performance and ends on a quieter, celebratory note. Izuku returns to the festival grounds after the confrontation, and the students are finally able to begin their stage performance without further interruption.
Hound Dog and Ectoplasm have already cornered Gentle Criminal and La Brava when the episode opens its final stretch, and Gentle is in no condition to keep resisting. Ectoplasm recognizes Gentle from his online videos, while Hound Dog becomes suspicious that another person is involved because he can smell a third presence. Gentle, seeing that La Brava is being treated as part of the incident, insists that she should not be blamed and claims that he is the one who manipulated her into helping him. He is then taken away, and the teachers ask Izuku whether he fought the villain. Izuku downplays the whole thing, saying it was just a disagreement and that everything is fine now.
Once the teachers report that the situation is under control, the festival is allowed to continue. Gentle and La Brava are escorted away for police handling, and as they leave, Gentle tells Izuku that he had once been enrolled in the Hero Course before dropping out and becoming a villain. That exchange closes out the confrontation and leaves Izuku with a subdued sense of what just happened, even as the festival continues around him.
Back at U.A., the School Festival performance begins in earnest. Class 1-A’s musical and dancing show goes forward, and the festival atmosphere finally takes over the episode. Izuku rejoins the others, and the performance is presented as a success that brings the crowd into the moment. Eri watches the event with Mirio and is clearly delighted by everything she sees, reacting with visible excitement and enjoyment. Even some of the students who had previously been critical are won over by the performance.
After the show, All Might and Hound Dog confront Izuku and scold him for the risks he took during the fight with Gentle. Once they have made their point, they let him go enjoy the rest of the day. Izuku immediately goes to see Eri and Mirio, and the mood becomes much lighter again. The episode also includes the Miss U.A. election, which Nejire Hado wins. Afterward, the students from Class 1-A enjoy the festival booths and attractions around campus.
By the end of the day, Izuku and Mirio have to say goodbye to Eri, who leaves with Aizawa. Before she goes, Izuku gives her a candy apple that he made himself, turning the farewell into a warm final beat for the episode.
A brief post-episode police scene shows La Brava being questioned at the station. Her computer skills impress the interrogators, but she refuses to use them for anyone except Gentle. In another room, Gentle is questioned by an inspector who does not accept the idea that La Brava was merely an innocent bystander. The inspector bluntly challenges Gentle’s choices, and the remark hits him hard enough to make him cry.
