My Hero Academia Episode 98: That Which Is Inherited

The final Class 1-A vs. Class 1-B training match begins with Izuku Midoriya, Ochaco Uraraka, Mina Ashido, and Minoru Mineta facing Yui Kodai, Reiko Yanagi, Nirengeki Shoda, and Hitoshi Shinso, while Neito Monoma joins Class 1-B to make the matchup more difficult.

Class 1-A starts with a strategy built around Midoriya’s speed: he is meant to lure the opposing team into revealing their positions while the others follow up. Midoriya and Monoma quickly clash, and Monoma’s taunting pushes Midoriya’s emotions too far. When Midoriya tries to attack with One For All, a strange black power suddenly bursts out of his body instead, shocking everyone and throwing the battlefield into chaos.

The black tendrils lash out uncontrollably, damaging the training ground and threatening both teams. Uraraka rushes in to help Midoriya, and the others react as the fight breaks apart into multiple skirmishes around them. Shinso also uses his Brainwashing ability during the confusion, stopping the rampage long enough for the situation to stabilize.

At the same time, All Might receives an urgent call from Gran Torino before Round 5 begins. Gran Torino tells him about a story from shortly after Nana Shimura inherited One For All: she once dreamed of a dark, blurry shadow telling her, “the time has not yet come.” All Might is left thinking about what that message means and when “that time” will arrive.

Inside a strange inner space linked to One For All, Midoriya encounters a mysterious man who explains that the black power is a Quirk called Blackwhip. The man says that the Quirk factors of previous One For All users have blended into the power’s core and are beginning to emerge, and that Blackwhip appeared because Midoriya wanted to capture Monoma. He warns Midoriya that anger will make the power stronger and tells him to control his emotions if he wants to handle what is coming. He also says that more Quirks are on the way for the person who will complete One For All.

Midoriya wakes as the fight continues, with the newly awakened power having already injured Uraraka during the chaos. The episode ends with the implications of Blackwhip and the mystery surrounding One For All’s inherited powers still unfolding.
