Full recap
Michael, Lincoln, and their accomplice are trapped at a motel when police surround the building, so they use the chaos to take a TV cameraman hostage and escape. They then record a video confession designed to be broadcast publicly, using the exposure to send a hidden message to Sara and to mislead the authorities about where they are headed.
The broadcast immediately draws FBI attention. In Chicago, Mahone analyzes the footage, questions the cameraman, and learns a detail that helps him infer the fugitives’ intended route and destination. The message is also seen by Sara, who realizes it is meant for her and understands that the real information is concealed in the details of the recording.
As the manhunt tightens, the episode cuts between several other developments. Bellick remains badly wounded in the Fox River infirmary. Sucre continues trying to make his way south, but his travel plans go wrong and he ends up taking a car from a helpful stranger. Haywire is shown drifting into another new situation after meeting a young couple and noticing signs of abuse in the girl’s home life.
By the end of the episode, Michael waits at the hospital for the meeting he has arranged through the hidden message, but Sara does not appear in person. Instead, she contacts him by phone, and their conversation confirms that she understood the message and knows where he is, while also making clear that she cannot come to him.
