Reacher Episode 14: New York's Finest

A blast destroys the building the team has been surveilling, and the aftermath pushes Reacher, Dixon, Neagley, O’Donnell, and Russo into a full counteroffensive. They quickly realize the situation is bigger than they thought, then track down Marlo Burns to force answers and set a trap that ends in a deadly ambush.

The episode opens after the explosion, with NYPD responding to the scene as Reacher’s group regathers at a nearby playground to figure out what just happened. O’Donnell believes Swan must have been setting them up, but Reacher refuses to accept that Swan was corrupt. Russo arrives and explains that the building was rigged with IEDs, that only the sniper’s body is inside, and that Swan is nowhere to be found. He concludes that whoever planned it had military training and likely intended to kill Reacher’s team in the building while also eliminating the sniper in the playground.

Soon after, Russo gets word that Marlo Burns’s car has been found abandoned north of Manhattan near Cortland, and he passes the lead to the others. The team follows up at a convenience store, where they ask an employee to show surveillance footage of Marlo and her daughter, Jane, when they stopped there. While reviewing the video, Neagley notices that Jane is carrying a Nintendo Switch, which allows the team to trace her location through the child’s gamer tag and IP address.

Reacher and the others then move to Marlo Burns’s location and confront her. Under pressure, she explains that Swan had been trying to stop New Age’s operation and confirms that she has been on the run because Langston threatened to kill her and Jane if she cooperated with Swan. She also helps clarify that the attack on Reacher’s team was part of a larger setup tied to Langston and New Age. Reacher learns enough from her to arrange a meeting that could bring him face-to-face with Langston.

While the rest of the plan is unfolding, Russo stays behind to keep watch over Jane and protect her. The situation suddenly turns violent when Russo comes under gunfire from Langston’s men and is forced into a high-speed pursuit. He calls Reacher to warn him, and Marlo overhears the call, which makes her fear for her daughter’s safety. Langston realizes the meeting is a trap from Marlo’s reaction and moves to kill her, but Reacher and his team intercept before that can happen.

A firefight breaks out in the parking lot. Reacher kills Langston’s men and tries to track Langston down by redialing the phone numbers he used, only to be interrupted by a helicopter that gives Langston cover to escape. Back with Russo and Jane, Russo tells her to run while he covers her, and after some hesitation she does. Russo is critically wounded, but not before killing two of the gunmen himself. The last of Langston’s men, Grant, corners Jane and is about to kill her when Neagley hits him with her car and severely injures him.
