Reacher Episode 27: One Small Step

Reacher, Tamara, Jacob, and Russell Plum keep investigating Nolan Cahill’s connection to Anna after Russell’s online post about the missing USB drive draws unwanted attention to them.

At Plum’s office, the situation turns violent when agents show up looking for the drive, and a second armed group attacks before they can question anyone properly. Reacher and the others fight their way out, killing the attackers and escaping, while Tamara gets a different car so they are harder to track.

Reacher later meets Lila Hoth alone and presses her about the holes in her story. Lila admits she lied about key parts of her background: she is actually a journalist investigating alleged war crimes and torture in Indonesia, and Amisha is not her mother. She also says she does not really believe John Sampson is her father, and explains that she has been trying to expose what happened there, including claims that Sampson and a military operation under General Putra were involved.

Their meeting is interrupted when armed mercenaries attack at a bowling alley. Reacher fights back with whatever he can grab, and Lila ends up helping him survive the ambush.

Meanwhile, Tamara, Jacob, and Plum find Anna’s abandoned car, which has already been searched, and discover another access badge hidden in it. Plum analyzes it and realizes Anna had high-level security clearance, which suggests she had access to far more sensitive material than anyone expected.

Reacher then confronts Sampson directly about the Indonesia allegations. Sampson denies taking part in atrocities and insists he did not torture or kill civilians. Reacher also tells him he personally saw Cahill on the subway the night Anna died.

The group ultimately corners Cahill, but he refuses to explain what happened. After apologizing to Sampson, Cahill jumps from a roof and dies, leaving Reacher with one more dead witness and the investigation still full of unanswered questions.
