Reacher Episode 4: In a Tree

Reacher and Roscoe are already dealing with the aftermath of the armed men who tried to kill them, and Reacher takes time to search the dead men’s bodies and truck for anything useful. He and Roscoe then move the bodies into the attackers’ car and use that car to get away, hiding it at the airport parking garage before checking into a hotel.

While they regroup, Reacher and Roscoe keep pushing the investigation forward. Finlay reports that Joe’s burned rental car has been found, and Reacher examines the wreckage closely enough to identify the vehicle and confirm that Joe was tied to it. Reacher also speaks with Finlay about the case, while Finlay continues to get pressure from Mayor Teale, who tells him to stop digging into the Klîners’ business.

Reacher and Roscoe then follow a new lead to the Jobling family. At first they visit the wrong house, then they find the son’s actual home, which looks strangely expensive for a truck driver. They inspect the place and its garage for clues, but do not find anything decisive there.

Finlay also gets a call from Picard, who provides another lead: the last known location of Joe’s car before it was burned. That pushes Reacher and Roscoe to a motel, where they learn Joe had been staying and find hidden notes with several phone numbers. Before they can fully exploit the new information, they are ambushed again by more hired killers. Roscoe helps turn the fight in their favor, and Reacher gets through the attack alive.

Back at the hotel, Reacher and Roscoe receive a call from Homeland Security contact Molly Beth, and they arrange to meet her and exchange evidence. The episode ends with that meeting going wrong: when they arrive, Molly Beth is found murdered and the evidence she was carrying is gone, confirming that someone is monitoring their investigation closely.
