Rick and Morty Episode 10: Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind

Rick is at breakfast with his family when a hostile alternate Rick and his Morty burst in through a portal, kill him, and abduct Morty. The scene then shifts to reveal that this family is from another dimension, and the real Rick and Morty later have the same breakfast interrupted by armed alternate Ricks who take them to the Citadel of Ricks to answer for a string of murders across other dimensions.

At the Citadel, the council accuses Rick of killing 27 alternate Ricks and stealing their Mortys. Rick insists he is being framed, but evidence seems to point to him, so he and Morty are forced into custody. During the transfer, Rick manages to escape with Morty and leads a chase through several dimensions while trying to track down the real killer.

Back at the Smith house, several alternate Ricks remain behind and interact with the family, including one unusually kind, awkward Rick who bonds with Jerry over being the odd one out. Meanwhile, Rick follows the trail to a hidden facility where hundreds of Mortys are being held in a massive control system designed to shield the true culprit from detection.

Rick and Morty are captured by the apparent villain: a scarred Rick accompanied by an eyepatched Morty. The scarred Rick reveals that he plans to use Rick’s memories and then kill him. Morty is separated from Rick and discovers a large group of captive Mortys who have been brought up to see themselves as disposable, but also to believe in a coming “One True Morty.”

Morty starts to question his place in Rick’s life and grows angry at being treated like a tool. He rallies the other Mortys into a revolt, and together they storm the facility to rescue Rick. In the chaos, the scarred Rick is overwhelmed and destroyed, and the control over the operation is exposed as having been hidden by the Morty-based system.

By the end of the episode, the Council of Ricks realizes Rick was framed and clears him. The family returns to normal life, while the episode leaves the strange, hidden Morty hierarchy and the unsettling truth about the multiverse’s Ricks and Mortys hanging in the background.
