Rick and Morty Episode 29: Morty's Mind Blowers

Rick and Morty are fleeing through an M.C. Escher-like dimension while protecting a “Truth Tortoise,” but Morty looks into its eyes, gains overwhelming knowledge, and drops it into the void. The collapse of the strange world sends them home, where Morty is too disturbed to relax, so Rick takes him to a hidden room under the garage containing memories Morty once begged to have erased.

Rick begins playing back those erased memories one by one. Morty sees a series of increasingly embarrassing, traumatic, or disastrous incidents from his life, including situations where Rick’s actions made things worse, and he becomes more upset as he realizes how many memories Rick has removed.

As more memories are shown, Morty grows angry at Rick for erasing things without properly respecting his wishes. The confrontation turns physical, and Rick tries to wipe Morty’s mind again, but the struggle causes the memory device to misfire and erase both of their memories instead.

With no idea who they are, Rick and Morty try to piece together their identities by examining the stored memories around them. Morty becomes overwhelmed by what he learns from the memories and reaches a breaking point, while Rick, seeing where things are headed, is willing to follow him into the same decision.

Just before they can go through with it, Summer arrives, acts as if this is a routine situation, and uses a prearranged procedure to calm them down, restore their memories, and put them back in place. Rick and Morty are left frustrated, and Summer’s reaction makes it clear this has happened before.
