Rick and Morty Episode 57: JuRicksic Mort

Morty is late for school and asks Rick for a ride, but Rick’s portal gun is still broken and keeps summoning a monstrous creature instead of working, so Rick drives him there himself. On the way, Morty keeps pressing Rick to fix the portal gun, and Rick treats the repeated reminders as part of his frustrating “process.”

While this is happening, the school already has a routine in place for Morty’s frequent bizarre arrivals, and that emergency drill gets triggered when a fleet of spaceships appears around the world. The ships contain highly advanced dinosaurs, who return to Earth, judge how humans have been running things, and present themselves as calm, capable replacements who can improve civilization without violence.

The dinosaurs quickly start taking over major problems and making life on Earth unusually efficient and peaceful, which leaves Rick irritated and suspicious. When Morty and the rest of the world see how smoothly things are going, Rick’s usual problems become harder to ignore, because the dinosaurs make him look unnecessary.

The President eventually contacts Rick and wants him to remove the dinosaurs so humanity can go back to the old way of doing things, but Rick is not motivated by that alone. What finally pushes him to act is the promise of the one thing he really wants, and that gets him to challenge the dinosaurs directly.

Rick tries to force a confrontation, but the dinosaurs keep outclassing him by staying peaceful and practical instead of fighting back. After the conflict escalates, the dinosaurs decide the only responsible choice is to leave Earth, since their presence is making life too easy and they do not want to control humans forever.

Before they go, they seal the interdimensional rift that had been causing Rick problems, which infuriates him because it removes a huge source of potential chaos and storytelling for him to exploit. By the end, Rick turns his frustration back toward fixing his portal gun, while Jerry separately tries to write a second book.
