Rick and Morty Episode 82: There's Something About Morty

Morty discovers Rick has been secretly communicating with Evil Morty, which immediately sets off a tense confrontation when the truth comes out. Evil Morty arrives and forces Rick to go along with him on a mission by threatening the Smith family with the Omega Device, and Morty insists on coming too.

The three travel together to stop a multiversal threat called the Collective, which is consuming worlds and assimilating their inhabitants. During the mission, Morty realizes Rick and Evil Morty are far more familiar with each other than he expected, and he becomes increasingly jealous and frustrated as the two of them work together with surprising ease.

They reach a planet already being consumed by the Collective, and Rick and Evil Morty engage the enemy while Morty mostly struggles to keep up. Morty nearly interferes badly several times, but the fight is ultimately won and the threat is stopped.

Afterward, the group goes to a diner, where the uneasy dynamic between Morty and Evil Morty continues. Rick then secretly destroys the blueprints for the Omega Device and appears to have removed Evil Morty’s leverage.

Evil Morty later shows up at Rick’s home and confronts him in a direct fight. During the battle, Morty finally calls out how different Rick’s relationship with Evil Morty is from the one he has with Rick, and the conflict escalates into a standoff. Evil Morty tries to use time-freezing technology, but Rick has already tipped off the Time Police, who arrive and arrest him.

In the end, Evil Morty is taken away to prison, where he is told he will have to serve his sentence in real time rather than being placed in stasis.
