Rick and Morty Episode 88: Mortgully: The Last Rickforest

Rick and Morty travel to a remote forest planet so Rick can harvest valuable sap from a giant tree, but the tree is a sentient guardian that immediately stops them. It traps them underground, dissolves their bodies, and forces their consciousnesses into a bizarre evolutionary cycle where they awaken as microscopic organisms in a hidden aquatic ecosystem.

Rick and Morty realize they are not alone and find other trapped creatures living in the same underground system. They keep evolving through different life forms as they try to escape and understand the prison, while the tree’s process repeatedly resets them whenever they die.

As they learn more about the cycle, they help organize the other trapped beings and eventually turn the system against the tree itself. Working with the other prisoners, they attack the guardian, tear it out by its roots, and bring the cycle to an end. Rick and Morty then return to their ship and make it back home, ending the episode back on Earth.
