Silo Episode 4: Truth
Juliette tries gaining the trust of Deputy Marnes as they work to uncover the truth about recent tragedies.
Full recap
Juliette begins her first day as sheriff while the silo is still reeling from Mayor Ruth Jahns’s death, and Deputy Marnes is convinced Ruth was poisoned with rat poison. Bernard, Sims, and Marnes discuss the situation, and Juliette quickly becomes involved in the investigation as she tries to build trust with Marnes while facing skepticism from the sheriff’s office and people in authority.
Marnes is angry and determined to find whoever killed Ruth, while Juliette is focused on understanding what happened to George, whose file is missing from the sheriff’s office. The two realize they can help each other, and they agree to work together: Juliette will assist Marnes with Ruth’s death if he helps her look into George’s disappearance and death.
Juliette also has to step into the practical realities of her new job immediately. She is sworn in as sheriff, starts dealing with the fallout from Holston Becker’s absence, and discovers that the office does not welcome her warmly, partly because she comes from engineering in the lower levels rather than from law enforcement.
As the investigation progresses, Marnes grows increasingly reckless and confrontational. He roughs up a suspect he thinks may be responsible, and his grief and anger make him difficult to control. At the same time, Judicial figures continue maneuvering around the situation, including efforts to remove Juliette from the position before she settles in.
The episode also cuts to Juliette’s childhood, showing how she lost her mother and younger brother and ended up effectively on her own with a father who was emotionally distant and focused on his work. Her memories show the painful breaking point that pushed her away from home and help explain the roots of her self-reliance.
Back in the present, Juliette continues digging into George’s case and starts uncovering gaps in the paperwork and evidence around him, including the missing file from the sheriff’s office. The episode ends with her still pushing forward on the mystery while settling into her new apartment and her new role, with both the Ruth Jahns case and George’s death left unresolved.
