Silo Episode 5: The Janitor's Boy

Juliette starts the episode studying George’s file, which contains transcripts and other documents that seem ordinary at first, leaving her unsure why Holston hid it. She is then summoned to Deputy Marnes’s apartment, where she finds him dead and the place turned into a crime scene.

At the scene, Judicial figures are already present, and the investigation quickly becomes political. Bernard orders people out, and Juliette is left to inspect the apartment. She notices signs that the room has been tampered with and finds evidence that points away from an obvious explanation, including a clue connecting the death to a resident named Patrick Kennedy.

Back at the administrative side of the silo, Marnes’s death becomes part of a larger struggle over control. Paul Billings is placed in a new deputy role, which effectively gives Judicial another way to monitor Juliette. Juliette realizes she is being managed and maneuvered rather than helped, and she becomes more determined to uncover what is really happening.

Juliette continues probing the evidence and later tracks down signs that someone has been trying to frame Patrick Kennedy for the murder. She follows the trail into a tense confrontation, only to discover that the real culprit has been working under Judicial’s authority. When she gets too close, he tries to escape by throwing her into danger, and she narrowly survives by hanging on and fighting back long enough for help to arrive.

Meanwhile, Sims meets with the man who has been doing his dirty work and makes it clear that the dead man has failed. Sims then tells a story about his father, a janitor, and implies that there is hidden power and secret knowledge connected to that role. After forcing the man to swear loyalty, Sims abruptly kills him by throwing him over the railing.

By the end of the episode, Juliette returns to Mechanical, where Martha is frustrated that she keeps putting herself at risk. Juliette is still pressing forward despite the danger, and the episode closes with the sense that the murders are tied to much bigger secrets inside the silo.
