Full recap
Spartacus spends the episode trying to force his divided rebels to act like a single army before the Romans find them. He stages a mock Roman attack to expose how vulnerable they are, then uses drills, paired fights, and wine to turn their resentment into teamwork.
The first major move is a surprise test: Spartacus has Crixus and Gannicus pose as Roman soldiers while he joins them, so the group experiences how easily an organized enemy could break through their defenses. Once the men understand the danger, Spartacus escalates the effort by sending Agron to raid a Roman wagon loaded with wine, which loosens everyone up and helps break the tension. He then arranges a series of one-on-one matches between men who have been feuding, using the fights to air old grudges in a controlled way and push them toward reconciliation.
Meanwhile, the Roman side continues tightening the noose. Ashur helps locate Spartacus’s hidden camp, and a Roman commander arrives with orders that shift the pursuit into a more direct military operation. The episode also follows the political intrigue back in Capua, where Ilithyia and Lucretia maneuver around Glaber and Seppia; Seppia is pushed toward killing Glaber, but Ilithyia intervenes and kills Seppia instead, saving Glaber’s life.
The episode then moves into a large battle as Roman forces finally engage Spartacus’s rebels. At first the rebels manage to strike back, but the fighting becomes chaotic and dangerous as the Romans press forward with overwhelming force. Varinius is killed during the clash, and the Roman assault grows more destructive. Spartacus’s side is forced into retreat after the enemy gains the upper hand, and the rebels withdraw up the mountain pass to avoid being trapped.
By the end, the Romans cannot safely follow them into the narrow pass, so the rebel army is left cut off and exposed to starvation and siege. Glaber decides not to risk a direct pursuit and instead prepares to wait them out, setting up the next stage of the conflict.
