Ted Lasso Episode 2: Biscuits

Ted arrives at AFC Richmond on his first day as coach and immediately tries to build goodwill by bringing Rebecca a tin of shortbread every morning as part of a new routine he calls **“Biscuits with the Boss.”** Rebecca acts politely distant, but she clearly enjoys the biscuits while privately telling Higgins she is worried Ted might actually win the players over and interfere with her plan to sabotage the club.

Ted and Beard begin evaluating the team, and Ted quickly realizes that the players are not especially receptive to him. He sets up a suggestion box through Nate so the squad can leave anonymous feedback, hoping to learn what the team wants and to open up communication. The box is filled mostly with insulting notes, though one real complaint stands out: the showers have weak water pressure.

In the parking lot, Ted and Rebecca run into Keeley, and Rebecca notices that Ted and Keeley could easily be mistaken for flirting, which gives her another angle to consider in her effort to undermine him. Ted later goes out with Beard to a local pub, where they talk about Sam, a quieter player who seems out of place and unhappy. After noticing Sam’s homesickness for Nigeria, Ted and Beard decide to do something kind for him by organizing a birthday celebration for after the team’s next match.

Ted also spends time figuring out Jamie, the team’s talented but self-centered star striker. He speaks with Keeley during a photo shoot to get a better sense of Jamie’s personality and learns that Jamie responds well to praise, so Ted tries a more positive, encouraging approach with him. Meanwhile, Jamie continues to irritate the rest of the team with his attitude, and Roy is especially frustrated by the tension Jamie causes around training.

Rebecca’s subplot in the episode focuses on her resentment toward Rupert and her determination to hurt the club. She is shown reacting to news that Rupert is with a younger woman connected to his past cheating, which reinforces her bitterness and motivation. She eventually arranges for paparazzi photos of Ted and Keeley to be taken, intending to use them to embarrass Ted publicly, though she hesitates when the moment comes to pass the order along.

The next match arrives, and before kickoff the team surprises Sam with a birthday gesture that includes treats from Nigeria, which means a lot to him and gives Ted a genuine bonding moment with the player. Richmond then plays the match and loses 4–1, with Jamie scoring the team’s only goal, but the commentators also note that Sam plays very well.

After the game, the team celebrates Sam’s birthday with cake and music, though Jamie stays apart from the group. Roy goes to shower and discovers that Ted has already fixed the water-pressure problem, turning the one useful complaint from the suggestion box into a practical improvement for the team. The episode ends with Ted revealed to be baking the biscuits himself from scratch rather than buying them, while Rebecca is still trying to figure out where he gets them.
