Ted Lasso Episode 27: Signs
With their season in a tailspin, Richmond try to right the ship against mighty Manchester City. Off the pitch, everyone faces their own setbacks.
Full recap
Ted faces a growing mental and emotional strain as Richmond continue their slump, while the rest of the club deals with personal problems and career upheavals. The episode moves between the match at Manchester City and several off-pitch storylines, all of which underline the sense that the team and its people are each at a breaking point.
Richmond’s day gets worse on the field when they lose **4–2** to Newcastle United, extending their winless stretch to seven straight weeks. The coaching staff cannot agree on a clear response to the team’s struggles, and the atmosphere around the club remains tense.
At the café, Rebecca is startled to see her ex-boyfriend John there with a new fiancée. During the encounter, Rebecca repeats a phrase that had appeared in one of Tish’s predictions, adding to her unease about her personal life and future. Later, before Richmond’s next match against Manchester City, Rebecca visits a fertility clinic to learn her chances of getting pregnant and is told she will receive the results after the game.
At Keeley’s side of the story, she and Jack attend a meeting while Shandy announces that she is working on a new app designed to help users have sex with celebrities. After Shandy leaves, Jack pushes Keeley to fire her, but Keeley initially refuses. Keeley later changes her mind after learning that Shandy’s behavior has cost the firm a client, and Shandy storms out angrily when she is let go.
Ted’s personal storyline centers on Henry. He learns that Henry was involved in a bullying incident and talks with Michelle that night to get the full story, only to discover that Henry was actually the bully. Ted also has a phone call with Henry later that helps him hold off a panic attack. During Richmond’s locker-room buildup for the Manchester City match, the team watches a video in which Zava announces his retirement so he can spend time with his family and tend to his avocado farm. Ted then gives the team a speech saying Zava’s departure should force them to trust themselves more.
As Ted’s speech continues, half of the “Believe” sign falls from the wall. He responds by tearing down the rest of it and saying it is “just a sign,” insisting that the team’s belief in themselves and one another cannot be destroyed that way.
