Ted Lasso Episode 32: International Break

Ted Lasso is on an **international break**, so AFC Richmond pauses league play while several players leave to represent their countries. The episode follows multiple storylines at once: Sam’s disappointment over Nigeria, Nate’s fallout after leaving West Ham, Keeley’s office crisis, and Rebecca being dragged into a proposed Super League meeting.

At Richmond, the players learn which national teams they will be joining. Jamie is selected for England, Van Damme for Canada, Dani for Mexico, Bumbercatch for Switzerland, and Colin for Wales, while the club prepares to continue without them for the break. Sam, meanwhile, is upset that he was not picked for Nigeria even though he has been playing well and was widely expected to receive a call-up.

Rebecca is told that Edwin Akufo is in town and wants to meet with her about creating a new Super League made up of elite clubs and players. The meeting becomes a major confrontation: Akufo and the other owners pitch the league as a lucrative new project, but Rebecca angrily rejects the idea and condemns the way wealthy men are trying to strip football from ordinary fans. Her speech has an effect, and the other owners back away from Akufo’s proposal.

A separate thread follows Nate, who has abruptly left West Ham and is back at his parents’ house. He spends time with his family and begins repairing his strained relationship with his father, who eventually apologizes for how he treated him and tells Nate that his happiness matters more than success. Nate also starts taking steps toward healing personally, rather than simply dwelling on his professional collapse.

In Keeley’s storyline, her company suffers a sudden setback when Jack’s VC backing is pulled, forcing the office into chaos and leaving Keeley without the funding she had relied on. Barbara chooses to resign from Jack’s company and asks to stay on as Keeley’s CFO, giving Keeley at least one person who wants to remain with her. Roy, realizing that his own insecurity helped damage his relationship with Keeley, writes her a letter and tries to leave it for her, but he catches her at home and reads it to her instead. He tells her that she did nothing wrong, that he pulled away because he was afraid of hurting her, and that he loves her.

Back at Richmond, the episode closes on a quieter but hopeful note. Will finds the locker room already prepared for the returning players, along with a note apologizing to him and signed “Wonder Kid.” Rebecca also hangs a painting from Rupert back on her wall, but this time it is not because she misses him; instead, she tells Ted that she no longer cares about beating Rupert personally and only wants to win for Richmond itself.
