Ted Lasso Episode 6: Two Aces
When Jamie refuses to train, Ted turns to talented new signing Dani Rojas—and the team is struck by an age-old curse.
Full recap
Ted is visibly distraught over his marriage and tries to bury himself in work, even taking off his wedding ring and putting it away. Richmond have just won their first match, but the win is complicated by the ongoing tension around Jamie Tartt, who keeps resisting Ted’s authority.
At a press event, Ted makes it clear that Jamie will only play if he follows the team’s strategy, and Rebecca warns him that Manchester City can recall Jamie because he is only on loan. Ted says he does not intend to bench Jamie permanently; he wants to improve his attitude.
Back at training, Jamie refuses to practice and claims he is injured. Ted finally loses patience and calls him out in front of the whole squad, sharply damaging Jamie’s influence over the team. Ted then shifts focus to a replacement striker, Dani Rojas, a new signing from Mexico who is enthusiastic, talented, and immediately makes an impression in training.
Dani’s arrival changes the mood around the club, but things take an odd turn when he is injured by something inexplicable in the treatment room. The team becomes convinced the room is cursed, and the story grows out of a local legend about young men being recruited from the club’s grounds for World War I, with many never returning.
To address the superstition, Ted organizes a ritual: everyone is asked to bring in something personally valuable and sacrifice it in a barrel to lift the curse. The whole club takes part, including Rebecca, Higgins, Beard, Nate, and eventually Jamie, who is persuaded by Keeley to contribute a treasured pair of shoes from his mother.
The team burns the items on the pitch, and the ceremony brings everyone together. Ted seems energized by the unity, and the episode briefly gives the sense that the curse may be broken and the team spirit restored.
The next day, Ted learns that Jamie has been recalled by Manchester City. He is furious when Rebecca tells him she could not stop it, and he feels let down just after Jamie had started to come around. Dani tries to comfort him by reminding him that “football is life.”
