Attack on Titan Episode 85: Traitor

Hange and a man named Magath observe a port occupied by soldiers called Jaegerists. They find it unusual that the Jaegerists haven't destroyed a flying boat, considering possibilities ranging from underestimating their combined forces to wanting to preserve valuable technology. However, Hange believes the Jaegerists will destroy it immediately if they discover their presence, making it difficult to stop them even with some powerful individuals.

Behind them, a woman named Annie emphasizes the need to eliminate all enemies simultaneously to save the flying boat. Another woman, Mikasa, urges caution to avoid endangering the Azumabito family. A woman named Pieck and a man named Onyankopon agree, noting that while Onyankopon can pilot the boat, the Azumabito engineers are crucial for its maintenance and flight preparation.

Annie then suggests that the group referred to as Scouts wants them to hold off the enemy while the Azumabito prepare the flying boat, without killing any Jaegerists. A man named Jean admits he would prefer this, so Annie presses them, particularly a man named Armin, to devise such a plan. Pieck states that no such plan exists; they must either eliminate the Jaegerists or lose the flying boat. This prompts a man named Conny to protest that they didn't come to kill their friends.

Annie concludes that this is too much to ask of people like them, suggesting that if they had been sent to Paradis Island instead of the Warriors, they would never have broken the Walls. A man named Reiner suggests that Jean, Mikasa, Armin, and Conny hide with a girl named Gabi and a boy named Falco to avoid being seen and forced into confrontation. Jean and Conny are uneasy, but Hange returns with Magath, stating they will not be spectators. Hange reveals that massive Wall Titans have crossed the ocean and the world has little time, suspecting they have already reached Marley and destroyed cities.

Magath confronts a woman named Yelena, suffocating her and demanding to know where a man named Eren is heading. He breaks her arm before stepping back. Yelena gasps that she has changed her mind and will consider talking if they take her with them. Hange and Onyankopon remind Magath that the boat is their priority. Spotting Gabi watching, Magath backs down and apologizes to the Scouts for his behavior the previous night.

Magath explains he was trying to justify his own actions rather than acknowledge the vileness of his country. He now recognizes that the Scouts are not at fault for their ancestors' actions, nor are the Warriors. He believes they must remember history and stop the cycle of killing, which is why Eren's actions are unforgivable. He bows to the Scouts, asking them to overlook the current bloodshed until it's over. Armin refuses, stating he will not stand by with clean hands.

Inside a port building, a man named Floch marvels at the idea of a new world to a captive woman named Kiyomi Azumabito. He tells her and her engineers to focus on contributing to the island if they don't want to lose more people. Kiyomi warns him that Paradis Island won't necessarily be safer, as people will still kill each other even if the world is smaller.

Floch thanks her, agreeing with her conclusion, but then points a gun at her head. He warns Kiyomi that she could be eliminated if seafaring and flying boats become irrelevant. As he reminds her of her place, Armin shouts from outside on horseback with Conny. Armin claims he has been chasing a creature called the Cart Titan, which is swimming away with another creature called the Armored Titan. He asks the Azumabito to prepare the flying boat for pursuit.

Armin and Conny ride to the flying boat, where they are stopped by two men, Daz and Samuel. The flying boat's tarp is strapped with explosives. Armin asks for them to be removed, but Samuel mentions rumors that Armin and Conny have joined forces with Marley. They deny it, which Samuel finds a relief, and they continue to press for the explosives' removal. Daz disconnects them from the detonator but notices Armin and Conny's unease as they wait for the Azumabito engineers.

Floch, after assessing Armin and Conny's story, becomes suspicious. He notes that they would have arrived faster by train if they were certain of their enemies' location and questions their activities and lack of communication. He concludes that while he has no proof, the suspicion is troubling, and it's best to prevent trouble. He raises his gun. Before he can kill the Hizuru engineers, Kiyomi forces him to the floor, causing his shots to go wild. Jaegerists rush in, but Mikasa crashes through a window to stop them. Floch escapes through another window, shouting for the Jaegerists to kill Mikasa, Armin, and Conny as traitors. As the Jaegerists gather, Mikasa hurries Kiyomi and the engineers to the basement, where they meet Magath, Hange, and Jean.

At the dock, Daz moves to reconnect the explosives to the detonator. Armin tries to stop him but is shot by Samuel, who then aims his gun at Conny. Samuel urges Daz to hurry and blow up the flying boat. Conny tries to speak to Samuel, but Samuel expresses feelings of betrayal and laments the situation.

Kiyomi worries about being trapped in the basement, but Magath assures her it's for the best so the others can fight without worrying about their safety. Outside, Reiner and Annie transform into the Armored and Female Titans and begin attacking the Jaegerists.

Amidst the fighting, Conny tackles Samuel and struggles for his gun. Armin revives and pushes Daz off the detonator, causing Daz to point his gun at Armin. Samuel protests, asking if they are friends. Conny agrees they are, but seeing Armin about to be killed, he recalls words about someone needing to stain their hands with blood. He wrestles Samuel's gun away and shoots Daz in the head, killing him. Conny then shoots Samuel multiple times, killing him as well.
