Breaking Bad Episode 13: Peekaboo

Jesse tracks down the drugged couple who stole meth from his dealer Skinny Pete and discovers their home is chaotic and their young son is dirty, starving, and neglected. Jesse gives the boy food and plays a game of peekaboo with him, who is mute and doesn’t even wipe his own snot. When the couple—Spooge and his wife—return, Jesse holds them at gunpoint, demanding his stolen meth and money. They return part of the meth, claim the rest is lost, and show him a stolen ATM they’re trying to open. Spooge works unsuccessfully to open it while Jesse continues playing with the boy. While Jesse is distracted, the wife knocks him unconscious with a bottle, steals his gun and drugs. Jesse wakes up to see Spooge trying to open the ATM from the bottom; the wife, angry at being called a “skank,” tips the ATM over, crushing Spooge to death. She then takes Spooge’s drugs and gets high on the couch. Jesse grabs his gun back, takes the money when the ATM pops open, calls 911, and brings the boy outside, telling him not to go back inside before running away.

Meanwhile, Walter White returns to teaching on his first day after finishing chemotherapy and lectures his class about Dr. Tracy Hall, the inventor of synthetic diamonds who earned little while General Electric profited enormously. At home, Skyler receives a call from Gretchen Schwartz, whom she believes is paying Walt’s medical bills, and invites Gretchen over that afternoon. When Walt arrives home, Gretchen quickly leaves; Walt follows her outside and tells her not to say anything until they can talk. Later, Walt tries to apologize for lying, but Gretchen demands to know why he lied and how he’s been paying for treatment. Walt, angry at being cut out of Gray Matter Technologies, denies she has any right to that information; Gretchen insists Walt left by walking out of their past relationship. Walt curses at her, and she leaves.
