Breaking Bad Episode 46: Face Off

Walter White removes a bomb from Gus Fring’s car and rushes to the hospital to ask Jesse Pinkman for a location Gus frequents that lacks security cameras and heavy guard presence. Before Jesse can suggest one, two detectives take him into custody to question his claim that Brock was poisoned with ricin. Saul Goodman arrives as Jesse’s lawyer, and Jesse reveals a potential spot: Hector Salamanca’s retirement home, Casa Tranquila.

Walt visits Hector, offering a truce by giving him a chance to kill Gus as revenge for the destruction of the Salamanca family. Hector requests to speak with the DEA but instead insults them by spelling “SUCK MY” and “FUC” on a letter board. Gus, believing Hector is about to become an informant, visits Casa Tranquila to personally assassinate him. Gus’s associate Tyrus Kitt inspects Hector’s room for surveillance devices and finds nothing.

Gus enters, admonishes Hector for his supposed cowardice, and prepares to kill him with a lethal injection. For the first time in years, Hector looks up at Gus furiously, shocking him. Hector then repeatedly rings his bell, detonating Walt’s bomb hidden beneath his wheelchair. The explosion kills Hector and Tyrus instantly; Gus walks out of the room with half his face blown off, exposing part of his skull, before collapsing and dying.

Walt hears news of the explosion on the radio and feels relieved. Jesse is released from police custody after test results show ricin did not poison Brock, but he is immediately kidnapped by Gus’s two henchmen and forced to cook meth at gunpoint in the superlab. Walt arrives at the lab, kills the two men, and frees Jesse. Knowing Hank Schrader is closing in on the lab, Walt and Jesse burn it down.

The episode ends with a shot of a lily of the valley plant in Walt’s backyard, revealing that Walt was the one who poisoned Brock.
