Getting nowhere fast, L thinks of a new plan to get Misa, Light, and Mr Yagami out of confinement. Meanwhile, Rem finds a new person to play as Kira.
Full recap
The episode opens with Rem, the shinigami, speaking to a mysterious businessman with silver teeth. She hands him a Death Note, allowing him to use it freely as long as he targets criminals, calling it "good business" for him while he grins devilishly.
Over a month has passed since Kira's killings resumed, with victims now including criminals in the business world. L remains convinced that Light Yagami is Kira and Misa Amane is the second Kira, stating that execution is the only way to stop the murders.
L decides to release Light and Misa on the condition they pass one final test. Light, who has relinquished ownership of a Death Note and forgotten his memories tied to it, acts genuinely innocent and confused by the accusations.
Soichiro Yagami arrives to "free" Light and Misa, driving them away in his car. He reveals he is not freeing them but taking them to an execution site himself, as the UN and Japanese government demand their immediate execution without trial due to the ongoing killings.
Light and Misa protest desperately, insisting their innocence, but Soichiro presses on, conflicted by his suspicions. As they drive over a bridge on a clear day with no one around, Soichiro suddenly veers under it, stops the car, and draws his gun.
In a tense standoff, Soichiro aims at Light, intending to shoot him dead, then commit suicide himself, allowing Misa to escape and resolve his inner turmoil. Light pleads, questioning if Soichiro would truly kill his own son without proof.
Nothing supernatural occurs—no Kira powers manifest to save them. Soichiro breaks down emotionally, unable to pull the trigger, and admits deep down he believes Light is not Kira. He decides not to carry out the execution.
L observes the entire event remotely and, satisfied by their sincere reactions and lack of defense, clears Light and Misa as suspects for now, though he maintains heavy surveillance. Light and Misa reunite with the task force.
L reveals he has built an entire skyscraper headquarters for constant monitoring. To ensure closeness, L handcuffs himself to Light for 24 hours a day. Misa objects to the pairing, calling it gross for two boys.
Light expresses eagerness to help catch Kira, while L remains subtly suspicious amid the new pattern of business-related deaths.
