Death Note Episode 23: Frenzy

Higuchi writes down Matsuda's alias from a file listing him as Misa's manager, but Matsuda survives the broadcast, revealing the name as fake.

Desperate, Higuchi speaks to an unseen presence—later suggested by L to possibly be a shinigami—and makes a deal for the ability to kill by face alone, trading half his remaining lifespan; the Task Force watches via bugs, confused by his apparent solo conversation and writing without effect.

On his way to Sakura TV to confirm Matsuda's real name, Higuchi kills a police officer who pulls him over for speeding, proving to the investigators that he now possesses the Second Kira's face-killing power.

Light and L rush to the scene by helicopter, handcuffing Misa to a chair to keep her secured, while L deems the situation too dangerous and orders Higuchi's immediate arrest.

At Sakura TV, Soichiro swaps Matsuda and the interviewer with mannequins, playing a pre-recorded tape of the interview's continuation; Mogi, Wedy, and Aiber arrive as backup.

Higuchi arrives, realizes the setup, and faces four helmeted Task Force members attempting his arrest; he shoots at Wedy, but Soichiro dives in front, taking a non-critical bullet to the arm.

Wedy passes her gun to Aiber, who fires and misses, allowing Higuchi to flee to his car.

Higuchi hits a police roadblock led by Aizawa and gets pinned by the Task Force; from the helicopter, Watari snipes his front tire, crashing the car into an embankment.

Out of options, Higuchi draws his revolver to shoot himself, but Watari precisely shoots it from his hand.

Light declares that it is over, as the Death Note sits visibly in the passenger seat.
