Death Note Episode 24: Revival

The episode opens with the Kira Task Force returning to headquarters after arresting Kyosuke Higuchi on suspicion of being Kira, responsible for murders worldwide. They examine the Death Note found in his car, which lists rules for its use, including a supposed requirement that its owner must kill at least once every 13 days or die.

L interrogates Higuchi, who confesses that the Death Note is Kira's weapon, allowing kills by writing a person's name while picturing their face. Soichiro Yagami picks up the notebook and suddenly sees the shinigami Rem looming over it, yelling in horror; Mogi touches it next and reacts the same way.

L takes the Death Note from Mogi, sees Rem himself, and drops it in shock, confirming shinigami exist. He recalls past clues, like the second Kira's mention of exchanging notebooks on May 22nd in Aoyama. Light Yagami picks up the notebook, screams as his memories flood back, then calmly claims nothing happened.

Light uses a hidden scrap of Death Note and a pin from his modified watch to write Higuchi's name in his own blood, causing Higuchi to die at the scene with a heart attack. A flashback reveals Light's plan: he relinquished ownership of this original Death Note to Ryuk, who passed it to Rem, ensuring it reached Higuchi; Light forfeited Misa's notebook during confinement to lose his memories temporarily, while hiding a piece to kill openly and regain everything upon touching it.

The task force, including a returning Aizawa, debates the notebook's rules but finds no easy way to dispose of it. Meanwhile, in the shinigami realm, Ryuk greets Misa Amane, who makes a second deal for Shinigami Eyes—halving her lifespan again to see real names and lifespans—and trades a human apple for a sandy shinigami one.

Misa and Ryuk return; Rem watches via security camera, distressed by Misa's shortened life. Light reunites with Misa outside headquarters, naming her his companion. L observes silently, beginning his next plan.
