Full recap

Gevanni reports to Near about a man dying on a train after harassing a woman, while he continues tailing Mikami. Near grows cautious of the shinigami's potential loyalty to Mikami, notes the challenge of not seeing it themselves, and instructs Gevanni to persist in surveillance.

Aizawa and Light prepare wiretaps for an upcoming meeting, scanning for foreign bugs; Aizawa internally questions Light's paranoia about surveillance and why Kira would risk Takada's involvement. While Light checks the bathroom, Aizawa marks the bottoms of four notepads, suspecting Light of passing secret notes to Takada.

Gevanni films Mikami muttering to himself at lunch, lip-reading phrases like "Is that you, Shinigami?" and "That shinigami… ever since he gave me the notebook he hasn't reappeared." Near dismisses the shinigami as a threat based on this.

Takada addresses a crowd, apologizing for a delay by claiming she hasn't entered the concert hall yet; the Task Force wonders what's occurring. In the car, Misa complains repeatedly while Mogi stays calm, aware of the notepads. The Task Force contacts Near, who confirms he took the notepads into custody intentionally and is working on a plan.

Takada meets Light and mentions her prior encounter with Misa, who plans to announce her engagement to Light at the New Year's Music Festival; she passes him a written note with a hidden message. Matsuda gets overly excited listening in, prompting Aizawa to silence him.

In a flashback, Near had ordered Gevanni to touch Mikami's Death Note at the gym on January 31st to test for a shinigami, despite the risk. Gevanni opens Mikami's locker briefcase, touches the notebook, and sees no shinigami appear; he reports this to Near.

Near calls Mogi to confirm the Death Note's maximum control duration over a victim is 23 days, per Yotsuba group intel. Near plans to confront Light personally in exactly 24 days if Gevanni survives.
