Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 49: Bright Red Sword

Tanjiro’s sword turns bright red after Nezuko’s blood coats it, and he uses that power to cut down several of Hantengu’s clones. Elsewhere, Mitsuri arrives in the Swordsmith Village to fight off the demon attack, while Muichiro is led toward the workshop where the swordsmith Haganezuka is working and finds Gyokko waiting there.

The episode opens with Tanjiro still locked in combat against Hantengu and his divided forms. As the battle continues, Tanjiro and Nezuko struggle to keep moving while under constant pressure from the demons, who try to overwhelm them with lightning-like attacks and brute force. Nezuko helps by carrying the exhausted Tanjiro at one point, but the demons keep forcing them back.

During the fight, Tanjiro’s sword is grabbed by Nezuko, and her blood spills onto it. Her blood ignites, and the blade becomes a vivid bright red. With this new power, Tanjiro’s fighting style changes noticeably, and he channels the Hinokami Kagura to launch a fast, decisive attack. He manages to behead multiple of Hantengu’s manifestations in rapid succession.

As Tanjiro turns after the strike, he sees that Genya has also managed to cut down one of the demons. Tanjiro is shocked by Genya’s appearance, which now seems increasingly monstrous, but the episode keeps the focus on the immediate battle rather than explaining it.

In the Swordsmith Village, the crisis spreads as demon fish attack the area. Mitsuri rushes in and immediately begins tearing through the creatures to protect the villagers. She reaches the village chief, Tecchin, and finds him in grave danger with his guards already defeated.

At the same time, Muichiro continues forward with Kanamori, who had been rescued along the way and is now guiding him. They head toward the hut where Muichiro’s sword is being worked on, but when they arrive, Gyokko is already there waiting in front of the workshop. The episode ends with that confrontation looming and the village still under attack.
