Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 8: The Smell of Enchanting Blood

In the bustling streets of Asakusa, a man suddenly transforms into a demon and attacks his wife, slashing her throat. Tanjiro detects the demon's scent amid the crowd and intervenes, stuffing his hood into the demon's mouth to prevent it from biting her while instructing bystanders to help staunch her bleeding and get her to safety.

Tanjiro wrestles the feral demon to the ground as police arrive, unaware of the threat, and attempt to pull him away. A mysterious visual barrier blocks the officers, creating space around Tanjiro.

Nearby, a sharply dressed man named Muzan Kibutsuji encounters a woman begging for her child's medicine; he pierces her skull with his tendrils, flooding her body with his blood, which causes her cells to rupture as she partially transforms into a grotesque demon-like form before melting into ash.

Muzan summons two nearby demons and orders them to retrieve the head of the Demon Slayer wearing hanafuda earrings. Alone, Muzan flashes back to a terrifying memory of a sword-wielding figure with hanafuda earrings standing before him.

Tanjiro catches Muzan's scent earlier in Asakusa, marveling at the Taisho-era city's vibrancy before pursuing it through the crowds, leading him straight to Muzan. Recognizing the overwhelming demonic presence, Tanjiro draws his sword and lunges to strike, but Muzan slashes a bystander's throat, turning him into the demon Tanjiro stopped; the resulting chaos allows Muzan to slip away unnoticed amid the panic.

Desperate to contain the situation and protect civilians, Tanjiro prioritizes restraining the new demon over chasing Muzan. With the police blocked off, a woman named Tamayo and a young man named Yushiro appear before Tanjiro; they reveal themselves as demons who survive without devouring humans—Tamayo, over 200 years old, has altered her body to subsist on small amounts of human blood, while Yushiro is her disciple, whom she turned to save from death, and he displays clear affection for her.

Tanjiro, shocked by their restraint and civility despite their demonic nature, asks if there's a way to turn his sister Nezuko back into a human.
