Dexter Episode 23: Left Turn Ahead

Dexter decides he is going to turn himself in after what he believes happened because of him and begins putting his affairs in order, while Doakes remains trapped in the cabin and urges him to stop running. Before doing that, Dexter has to deal with Lila, who shows up at the hospital claiming Angel raped her and uses the accusation to pressure Dexter into resuming their relationship.

The FBI case shifts when Deputy Director Max Adams takes over for Lundy, and the investigation turns up the tools and footage that connect Doakes to a gas station, tightening the search for him. Back at the cabin, Doakes manages to kick through part of the fence and escape, but he is captured by two men approaching with a boat; they beat him unconscious and drag him back toward the cabin after spotting the drugs there.

Dexter returns in time to find the two men retrieving cocaine from the cabin while holding Doakes at gunpoint. Dexter and Doakes are forced to work together and kill the dealers, after which Dexter puts Doakes back in the cage. Struggling with the damage his actions have caused, Dexter tells Doakes he is going to surrender to the authorities, then leaves to get his life in order before releasing him.

He goes to Lila and tells her that they will not be continuing their relationship and that he intends to end his career. Meanwhile, Debra and Lundy talk about their future now that Lundy will have to leave Miami when the case ends, and Debra begins checking Lila’s background while trying to help clear Angel. She discovers that Lila’s records are empty, and later learns that Lila’s real name is Lila West and that her visa expired two years earlier.

By the end of the episode, Lila has used Dexter’s GPS information to track him, setting up her next move while Dexter has taken Rita and the kids out on the boat.
