Dexter Episode 61: Those Kinds of Things

Dexter tails a possible victim from his high school reunion, but his plans shift after he confirms the man’s guilt and kills him in a private, calculated murder. At the same time, a separate investigation into a gruesome, symbolically staged killing pulls the Miami Metro team into a case involving faith, ritual, and a pair of hidden killers.

The episode opens with Dexter in the middle of a carefully staged emergency scene, where he calls 911 claiming he has been stabbed. The apparent attack is actually part of his trap for two paramedics who have been allowing patients to die so their organs can be harvested and sold on the black market. Dexter subdues both men and finishes them off with a defibrillator.

Miami Metro deals with the aftermath of a bizarre murder in which a fruit vendor is found disemboweled and later a body washes up with snakes inside it, suggesting a larger, ritualized pattern. LaGuerta is promoted to captain, while Batista is named lieutenant on a temporary basis and hopes to keep the position. Debra moves out of Dexter’s apartment and gets her own place.

Dexter also starts looking into a possible faith-based murder as he considers whether Harrison should attend a Catholic preschool. He becomes uneasy and reflective about religion while trying to make that decision.

Dexter then goes to his 20-year high school reunion, where he is focused on Joe Walker, the husband of Janet, a woman who had once been kind to him in school and whom Dexter believes may have been murdered. At the reunion, he blends in better than expected and reconnects with former classmates, including Trisha Billings, who thanks him by giving him oral sex. After collecting Joe’s blood and matching it to evidence from Janet’s murder, Dexter confirms his suspicion that Joe killed her. He later lures Joe away, rejects his excuses, and kills him.

Meanwhile, Quinn is preparing to propose to Debra when a gunman opens fire in a restaurant, turning the moment into chaos. Debra responds quickly and becomes the unexpected hero of the incident.
