Dexter Episode 88: Scar Tissue

Dexter keeps closing in on A.J. Yates, one of Dr. Vogel’s former patients, while Dr. Vogel begins treating Debra’s trauma by taking her back to the shipping container where LaGuerta died. Debra is angry that Vogel seems to be reframing what happened as a way to excuse Dexter, and Dexter is warned by Vogel that Debra may decide to cut him out of her life.

At Miami Metro, the team investigates the murder of Norma Rivera, and Quinn celebrates passing the sergeant’s exam while also getting into a fight defending Debra’s honor. Masuka has an awkward encounter with Niki, a 20-year-old woman who says she is his daughter through artificial insemination.

Dexter tracks Yates and finds signs that point to him being the Brain Surgeon. He breaks into Yates’s house and discovers that Yates has been watching him through security cameras and has accessed Vogel’s files, including material connected to Dexter himself. Dexter also learns that Vogel has been keeping detailed notes about her interactions with him, which makes him feel manipulated and betrayed.

Debra continues meeting with Vogel and appears to be processing what happened in the container. She later finds another recording involving Harry in Vogel’s apartment, goes to Miami Metro, and asks Dexter to drive with her so they can talk privately.

While driving, Debra asks Dexter about Harry’s suicide and the way Harry’s beliefs shaped Dexter’s life. The conversation turns volatile, Debra suddenly grabs the wheel, and the car crashes into a lake. A bystander rescues Debra, and she then has a change of heart, dives back into the water, and saves Dexter from the sinking car.
